Comments Off on Free Piano Lessons: Guide to Effective Piano Practice

The question on how practice effectively has been asked over and over again by many piano players and I have always shared my personal approach from my experiences, which has helped me to this point in my piano playing. This piano lesson approach of mine may be different from others’ point of view, but you can practice all day and all night but still struggle with piano playing.

Follow this unique approach from my personal experience, and you will be able to play piano professionally and with less practice. “Slow and steady wins the race”.

The following are effective ways to improve your piano playing:

Set Goals – Analyze and identify the areas of piano you will like to improve in, if you are a beginner, follow the piano lessons (Contemporary Gospel Worship Piano lessons) to practice.
It is important to write your goals down. For example, you want to learn how to play Chords and Scales on all keys by the end of November. You might want to set weekly goals that will cover every area of the subject you want to master for the month. For example, I want to learn how to play chords on all keys. First analyze what is in chords such as types of chords, and then put each of the items in your daily and weekly agenda.
Week 1: Basic Chords, Week 2: 7th Chords, Week 3: Extended Chords, etc.

Practice Time – Determine how many hours you want to dedicate to your practice daily and what time of the day. For example, I will dedicate 2 hours to practice piano daily and the practice time is between 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday to Saturday and Sunday will be used to review my progress.

Practice Agenda – This agenda will help organize your practice time and make it more effective.
Remember to set your goals for the month of November a month prior, which will be October, between the 3rd and the 4th week.
Here is one of the many approaches you can use for your daily practice agenda.

Day 1
• 6:00 – 6:15 pm Practice C Diatonic Scale
• 6:16 – 6:30 pm Practice C# or Db Diatonic Scale
• 6:31 – 6:45 pm Practice D Diatonic Scale
• 6:46 – 7:00 pm Practice C Diatonic Scale
• 7:00 – 8:00 pm Practice Basic Chord C Diatonic Scale

Day 2 to 7’s practice agenda may be slightly different from day 1, because you want to spend half an hour to review your day 1 lesson. This is just to give you an idea on how you can organize your practice time and make it more effective and productive.

I have used this approach for many years and it has helped many other people over the years.

Progress Tracking: This is very important because you want to know how you are doing in your practice. For example, for week 1 schedule, I should be able to play Basic Chords on all keys by day 7. Therefore, on day 7 I will verify if I am able to achieve that goal for week 1, and if not, why?
Identifying why will enable me to improve in the specific areas identified and will allow me to catch up. For goals not met I usually dedicate half an hour outside of my normal practice schedule.

With the above guide to piano practice, you will be able to overcome your piano-playing struggle in no time.

"Man you are a bundle of gift and blessing to many. I was on Facebook watching some of your piano lessons and I liked it right away. I quickly went to Youtube to see if I could find more lessons. I spent time mastering the arpeggio free lesson you posted on Youtube, it sounds great. On Sunday, I was just playing in church and I used the arpeggio I learned, friends and members were amazed and surprised at what they heard me play and they said to me that this is how you should be playing. I could not wait to get home that day, and in a nutshell, I went to your website and bought your Contemporary Gospel Worship Piano Lessons. I believe this product is worth more than the price I paid for"
